TRINITY RIVER
STRATEGIC MASTER PLAN

The Trinity River Strategic Master Plan is a comprehensive plan for the 88 miles of the Trinity River and its tributaries that flow through Fort Worth and other municipalities in Tarrant County, Texas. This greenway system is an exceptional and under-recognized recreational amenity which not only provides 72 miles of trails through a wide variety of neighborhoods and conditions, but which is ever expanding and is planned to reach through Arlington to Dallas.

The neighborhoods the river flows through and the trails and parks along its banks have seen a major evolution and expansion over the course of the last 12 years, since the last plan for the river was completed. The River Partners (Streams & Valleys, Tarrant Regional Water District, Trinity River Vision Authority and the City of Fort Worth), who own, maintain and advocate for the river corridor, came together to initiate a new plan that will define the future of developments and improvements along the river over the next 10-15 years.

The River Corridor is 88 miles, Tarrant County is 902 square miles. The River and its tributaries in the county flow primarily through Fort Worth, including Downtown, successful business and residential districts, traditionally underserved neighborhoods, natural floodway and industrialized floodway. It’s a big part of the glue that holds the city together.*
